What happened

A strange competition. My greens-in-regulation percentage was very high: I was reaching greens in the expected number of strokes, my long game held. On paper, it was a good day.

But once on the green, the putts piled up. Three, four, sometimes more to hole out. On some holes, I finished with an 8. Not because of the long game — because of the putting. You reach the green in regulation, you think you're set, and you walk off with a score that says nothing about how you got there.

What I learned today: I need to seriously step up my putting practice.
